The Secret Language of “Failure”

by Anthony Smith

Why do I fail more than I succeed (…or so it seems)? Does God want me to fail? It seems that everything I try just seems to crumble under me! I don’t see any point in making goals because I am just going to fail…again! I will never amount to anything!

Does this sound like you? I will be the first to admit that these very thoughts have run through the halls of my brain a time or two. What exactly are we suppose to learn from our failures? If you have allowed yourself to engage in such thinking in the past, then I have some good news for you. Below I have spelled out 3 reasons to celebrate “Failure.” Yes, I said Celebrate!

1. God does not fail…we are made in the image of God…(yep, you do the math)!
Webster’s Dictionary defines failure as, “a state of inability to perform a normal function.” Okay, so who knows what “normal” is??? Normal is just an average of the totality of human behavior. In other words…It does not exist! God does not make mistakes, nor does He fail. Since we are made in His image then we are perfect in design. Yes we have shortcomings but they serve a purpose in the fulfillment of His will. The challenge for us is to TRUST God, and His plan! Let us not forget the relationship that we share with our Heavenly Father.

2. When we fail…we win anyways!
I am notorious for starting about twelve projects a week knowing that I don’t have time for the first one. I think I have started P90X (fitness) six times this year, and have got no further than week three. But let me ask you a question. If you make a goal to work out for 90 days and you only make it to day 21…did you really fail? Seems to me that you got three weeks of great fitness in, and your body is looking and feeling a lot better. You see, we may not make it to the final destination, but progress is healthy for us all the way around. Stop beating yourself up for not being perfect. Let us keep open minds and be fair to ourselves when we strive for our Godly ambitions.

3. Our biggest failures are our biggest lessons!
Who is the world’s biggest failure, Albert Einstein or Bill Gates? I know what you are thinking…You thought they were the world’s greatest successes! That would make both of us right. These men were pushed into greatness after many failures. After Einstein struggled through school as an outcast he was deemed unfit for military service by the Swiss, stating: “Albert has an illness or handicaps, varicose veins, flat feet, and excessive perspiration on the feet.” Our American icon Bill Gates was a college dropout. Sometimes in order to come to terms with our true potential we have to experience some adversity. The list could go on…Thomas Edison, Michael Jordan, and Abraham Lincoln just to name a few. There are lessons to learn when the road gets tough. Remember… the night is darkest just before the dawn! In the words of Joel Osteen, “You are closer than you think!”

There is a secret language behind our failures that attempts to communicate with us. I challenge you to approach your failures with an attitude of learning. What would life look like for you if you adopted this simple truth? God is good all of the time, so LETS CELEBRATE LIFE!!!
