What is Ho'oponopono?

What do you do when a good friend comes to you and shares how difficult their day has been? What do you do when you hear on the news about a car accident that just happened on the interstate? What about when you go for a walk and pull a muscle? One more question. What do you do when you are in a relationship with someone…and things are not progressing kindly? Well, we all handle situations differently. But I started practicing something called Ho’oponopono a few years ago and it has changed my life drastically. So, what in the world is Ho’oponopono anyways?

Ho’oponopono is a Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness that dates back hundreds of years. It is a healing process in which the healer is accepting 100% responsibility for what shows up in their life (good and bad). They don’t fight what is manifesting…they just accept it. Then, they cleanse what feels negative. There is that darn positive/negative energy topic again (click here to learn more about +/-). So how exactly do they cleanse? They have a mantra that they repeat to themselves, “I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you.” Over and over and over again. By doing this they are asking for forgiveness for the part of themselves that has attracted this reality into existence. This cleanses their energy field and emits outwards to others as well (cleansing them too) since everything in the Universe is connected.

A few decades ago a gentleman named Dr Hew Len accepted a therapist position at a high-security State Mental Hospital in Hawaii. The position had been vacant for a while because staff member feared for their lives for how dangerous it was. Dr Len agreed to do what he could to help, but informed management that he did things a little different. Dr Len never once saw a client! He would just grab files and sit in his office all day…every day. Despite his seemingly unwillingness to visit clients, the patients started to get better, going off of their medications, acting nicer, and ultimately being released. People asked Dr Len what he did ALL DAY in his office, and he would simply reply “Ho’oponopono” and smile. By reading the files about the crimes they had committed he felt the negative energy…and cleansed it. Three years later…the Hospital shut down because everyone had been released.

In my practice of Ho’oponopono I am very observant with whatever shows up in my life believing it is being attracted to me for a reason…then I cleanse. If I hear about a sick friend…I cleanse. If I pull a muscle while running…I cleanse. If I feel stressed out...I cleanse. If someone comes to me complaining…I cleanse. Actually, with most conversations…I cleanse. They have no Idea I am doing it, and I never share what I am doing with them because I want it to be pure. I accept 100% responsibility for what has manifested in my life (and boy has that been life changing) because somewhere…somehow, I have called it into my existence.

This may be a new topic for you today, but if you want to learn more about Ho’oponopono there is tons of information online (Dr Google). I also have a section on this topic in my upcoming book being released at the end of March (2019) …going into much more practical detail. While spiritual practices are great…it is important to remember that we are LOVED even if we don’t practice Ho’oponoponio, go to church, or pray 26 times a day. So, keep a proper perspective…you don’t need to be religious to be loved by the Universe. In a world where most of us are always looking to cast blame on everyone except for ourselves…I trust the Ho’oponopono concept could change how you perceive life and how you interact with others. In closing, I just want to say, “I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you!”

  1. We all have an eraser incorporated within us, a delete key, but we forget how to use it. Ho’oponopono helps us to remember the power that we have to choose between erasing (letting go) or reacting, being happy or suffering. It is only a matter of choice in every moment of our lives.Hooponopono Certification
